Yet more prizes…

Now it’s the turn of the Prix Femina jury to announce its preliminary selection. (Honestly, you wait for one, and then four come along at once…) Again, like the Médicis, they have a French selection, and a choice of novels in translation. In the former category appear such names as Darrieusecq, Giles Leroy, the Poivre d’Arvor’s (O and P), etc – who’ve also appeared on the other lists: which begs the question – could someone win all four of the major French literary prizes? Or does some Gallic sense of proprieté intervene to forfend such literary gourmandise?

The Sélection Roman étrangers features Alessandro Baricco (Cette histoire-là), Marisha Pessl (again), Arto Paasilinna (Le Bestial Serviteur du pasteur Huuskonen) and Milena Agus (Mal de pierres). As I don’t know who Milena Agus is, I shall investigate…
