• the new edition of Bookforum is up: there’s a feature on the 50th anniversary of On the Road, reviews of Naomi Klein’s The Shock Doctrine and Edmund White’s Hotel de Dream, and, as usual, much much else.
• belated props to my colleague Chris Killen, who has been given a 2-book deal by Canongate. His first novel, The Bird Room is due in spring 2009.
• the German poetry scene has a new wunderkind, in the form of Ann Cotten, who writes manifestos, no less, and composes sonnets from foreign words. What’s more, she was born in Iowa.
